and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”

Children come to us full of wonder and joy, already knowing something about God. As such, we consider our children members of Christ Church, and cherish their presence here through meeting them where they are in worship, formation, and fun!

Children in Worship
Sundays at 9 am – Church Nave
Children’s Chapel and Worship (age 3 – grade 2)
All children are welcome at Christ Church any time! As an extension of our 9:00 am Family Service, Children’s Chapel provides our children an age-appropriate worship experience. Following the Opening Hymn and Collect (at the main service), young children gather in the Children’s Chapel (in the Education Wing) to hear the story of Jesus and to engage in an age-appropriate lessons for that Sunday. Every couple of months or so, our little singers join us in “the big church” to lead us in a favorite hymn they have learned over the preceding weeks in Children’s Chapel!

Junior Acolytes (K – grade 2)
Our youngest children are also encouraged to become Jr. Acolytes in worship as well. Throughout the year, your child will be asked to serve by leading children with the cross to children’s chapel, helping to pass the children’s offering plates, and to carry the Eucharistic elements. And, of course, our children will continue to be invited to gather around the altar for the Eucharistic Prayer!

Acolytes and Readers (grade 3 and above)
Worship is best when we are more than merely present. As part of our community, it is important for our children to serve in meaningful ways as well. All children, 3rd grade and above, are encouraged to be a part of our worship life as members of our acolytes and reader teams which serve once every few weeks. Young children begin as Gospel Bearers and graduate to become Torch Bearers, Readers, Crucifers, and Thurifers through the years. (And yes, it’s possible to be both an acolyte and a chorister!)

Children Together

What child doesn’t enjoy making a new friend or playing with an old friend? Long before we understand the fullness of God’s love and community, we belong to and are embraced by the community of faith. Throughout the year, from our annual Fall Homecoming to our Easter Day festivities to our year-end celebration, or special events sprinkled throughout, we bring our kids and families together, just to play and connect.
