CHORAL EVENSONG

The service of Evensong (or sung Evening Prayer) is drawn almost entirely from the Bible: Psalms, lessons from the Old and New Testaments, and Canticles (songs of praise from the Scriptures). Music is an integral part of this service, and the choirs offer sung prayers to God on behalf of the people of God. Free and open to the public.

In a departure from traditional structures of the Requiem, Fauré described his setting as “a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above, rather than as a painful experience.” Similarly, Howells creates a sense of hope and comfort through colorful dissonances, warm textures, and the incorporation of verses from the Psalms.
