2014-2015 Program Year Our new Program Year will commence in only two weeks with Kick-Off Sunday on September 7, 2014. The combined choirs will return for the 10am service, which will be followed by a Parish Homecoming Picnic on the front lawn. On September 14, we return to the regular schedule of 8, 9 and 11:15am Sunday services, and Evensong will be celebrated at 4:30pm. The 9am service on September 14 will include our traditional "Blessing of the Backpacks" with prayers for children returning to school. September 14 also marks the beginning of a new season of Christian Formation programming with Sunday School and Adult Forums running fro 10:10 to 11am and many additional opportunities for Christian Education, Worship, Stewardship and Outreach throughout week.
Sunday School Teachers Needed! Teachers and Volunteers - The program year will be kicking-off on Sunday, September 14th and we can use your help. If you taught last year or have been thinking of teaching for years, you are invited to contact Christian Hansen. We will gather for a brief training, lunch, and Safeguarding Class on Saturday, September 6th from 11am - 4pm to start the year off right! (no cost)
School Supplies Collection Over the next month we are collecting backpacks and school supplies to be distributed to students in the Detroit Public Schools. A box is set by the reception desk to collect contributions. Contact Christian Hansen for a full list of what is needed.
Blessings from the Task Force on Gun Violence We would like feedback from those that availed themselves to the Prayer Garden and Labyrinth during Holy Week. Please e-mail Lorraine Phelan if you have any comments or suggestions for next year.
SOS to all needlepoint stitchers! Did you know that each boy and girl singing in the Christ Church Choirs has a hand-stitched patch on the blazer of their choir uniform? A patch is given to each chorister when they are officially admitted into the choir in June. We are running out of patches and stitchers and we need your help! If you are interested in stitching a patch or two (or five!), please contact Scott Hanoian right away. All materials, directions, charts and finishing are provided for you and each patch takes approximately 15 hours to stitch. Please help to keep this glorious tradition alive for years to come!
Acolytes Wanted Girls and boys (4th grade and above); and adults needed! To volunteer, please contact Ted Hagan at 248.755.1655 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Memorials A great way to give thanks for our loved ones is to make an altar flower contribution in their name. The suggested contribution is $60. Contact Maryann DeAngelo to schedule a memorial.
Reserving Space for an Event In an effort to ensure that events are planned well in advance, and to eliminate scheduling conflicts, requests for room reservations must be received at least 21 days in advance of the event. Submitted forms are reviewed at the weekly staff meeting. You will be notified within 24 hours after a decision has been made. You can complete a "green" sheet HERE.
Pastoral Care Visits If you know of individuals that are housebound or in need of pastoral visits, please contact MaryAnn DeAngelo in the church office at 313.885.4841 ext. 107.
Alzheimer's Support Group All who are coping with the challenges of Alzheimer's disease and dementia are welcome to attend this group at any time to find comfort and practical help. The group meets every third Thursday in the Undercroft.
