  • A message delivered at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial by The Reverend Areeta Bridgemohan, Curate at the Grosse Pointe/Charlottesville Solidarity Vigil, August 17, 2017

Good evening and thank you all so much for coming out tonight to gather in response to the events in Charlottesville, Virginia.

I’d like to extend a special note of gratitude to WeGP for the important relationship building work that has been going on behind the scenes since they were formed a little less than a year ago. Helping us weave a stronger community fabric in Grosse Pointe, creating the opportunity for this kind of space – where we can get together, grieve the white supremacist rally and the injury and loss of life of the protestors in Charlottesville, and renew our personal and collective commitment to justice and diversity.

We gather here tonight to proclaim that compassion is stronger than fear and that love is stronger than hate.
