The Rev. Drew Van Culin


Fr. Van Culin was installed as the 10th Rector of Christ Church on May 14, 2013.  As the Rector, Fr. Drew serves as the chief priest, pastor, teacher, and host of the Christ Church community, is the chief custodian and advocate of the vision of Christ Church, is entrusted with the administration, execution, and oversight of the programs and assets of Christ Church, and provides leadership, direction, and supervision to the Christ Church staff.

The Rev. Areeta Bridgemohan

Christ Church Curate

Areeta joins the ministry team after earning of her Masters of Divinity degree from Trinity Seminary at the University of Toronto and her ordination to the Deaconate by Bishop Gibbs.  In addition to her responsibilities as a priest (preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and leading worship, etc.), Areeta will lead our outreach ministries and serve as a chaplain to our children and youth and to their families.

The Rev. Canon Ronald Spann

Assisting Priest and Director of the Christ Church Spirituality Center

A licensed PRH educator (Personality and Human Relationships), Ron serves as spirituality faculty for CREDO, a clergy wellness initiative of the Episcopal Church. He is a facilitator and curriculum developer for the Sustaining Pastoral Excellence grant to Detroit’s Ecumenical Theological Seminary. Now retired from pastoral ministry, Ron served for five years as associate rector of Christ Church Cranbrook, and for 25 years as rector of the Church of the Messiah in Detroit. He is an Honorary Canon of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul.

Scott Hanoian

Associate for Worship and Liturgy, Director of Music and Organist

Scott Hanoian joined Christ Church as the 8th Director of Music and Organist in 2007 and is responsible for continuing the tradition of musical excellence at Christ Church Grosse Pointe.  As the Director of Music, Mr. Hanoian directs the church's three liturgical choirs, the Choir of Men and Boys, the Choir of Men and Girls, the Christ Church Schola, as well as the Christ Church Chorale, and oversees the yearly concert series.  Mr. Hanoian is also an active organist, accompanist, continuo artist, conductor, choral adjudicator, and guest clinician.

Dexter (Tripp) Kennedy

Assistant Organist

Praised by The American Organist for his “prestigious technique and grand style musicality”, Dexter Kennedy is the Assistant Organist of Christ Church Grosse Pointe. As the winner of the Grand Prix de Interprétation at the 24th Concours International d’Orgue de Chartres, he has established himself internationally as one of the leading organists of his generation. In addition to concertizing and to his work at Christ Church, he is on the music faculty of the College of Wooster as Adjunct Instructor of Organ.

Diane Ward

Associate for Finance and Administration

Following a her retirement as CEO of the Red Cross of Southeast Michigan (Blood Division), Diane joined the Christ Church leadership team as the Associate for Finance and Administration.  In her capacity as the Associate, Diane oversees all matters pertaining to the business administration of the Church ensuring sound stewardship and effective management.

Rick DiLoreto

Director of Communications & Marketing

Rick joined joined the team in 2015 after serving as the Director of Communications at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield.  A graduate of the Wayne State University, and native of Detroit, Rick brings a fresh vision for Christ church marketing and will work with the ministry team to develop, coordinate, and implement a marketing strategy for the comprehensive ministry of Christ Church.

Robert J. Szadek

Director of Facilities

Rob joined Christ Church in 2015 with more than 20 years of experience in facility management.  In addition to his professional experience, Rob has an Associates of Science degree, and professional certifications in Refrigeration, Telecommunications, Chemical Cleaning, Emergency Response, and a Level 4 Boiler License. Rob and his family live in Warren, Michigan.

Maryann DeAngelo

Parish Secretary

MaryAnn joined the staff of Christ Church in 2000.  As the Executive Assistant to the Rector, MaryAnn’s primary responsibilities include administrative support for the Rector, daily running of the parish office, coordination of weddings, funerals, baptisms, administration of the church calendar, database input and maintenance, Columbarium transactions and altar flower memorials.

James Gray

Worship and Events Coordinator

Technically, James joined the Christ Church staff over 30 years ago as a member of the Christ Church choir.  Over the years, his passion for Christ Church and the worship we share has grown, and in 2014 he joined the staff as Worship Coordinator.  As Worship Coordinator, James is responsible for all worship publications, coordinating worship volunteers, and providing support to our worship ministries.

Peggy Karson


Born and raised in Grosse Pointe and graduate of MSU School of Business, Peggy has over 20 years experience as an accountant, which includes owning her own business.  She enjoys interacting with the parishioners and considers them long-time friends.

Christ Church Vestry

The Vestry is called to embody, articulate, and advocate for the vision within the parish and community, and to develop, and be chief stewards of, the resources needed to sustain and expand the ministry of Christ Church. Operationally, the Vestry delegates the administration of Church resources to the Rector and staff of Christ Church.
